Mardi Gras Chicago style at Pheasant run

The Pheasant Run Resort boasts that it is on 250 scenic acres of the Fox River Valley just outside of Chicago.  It is indeed a  beautiful hotel loaded with amenities and with beautiful views  of the surounding countryside.

Inside the resort complex it houses a section of shops and restaurants with a New Orleans theme.  It has the look of Bourbon Street with a safe, family atmosphere where you can get ice cream, souvenirs, an lunch and dinner at the New Orleans themed restaurant, Jambalaya.  There are different events and vacation packages throughout the year with the Mardi Gras Package being the current special through March 15, 2015.  With the Mardi Gras Package you get a $25 food and beverage voucher for Jambalaya, special family events, and, of course, use of the facilities.

The facilities are beautiful from the comfortable first floor Courtyard rooms to the plush tower rooms and suites.  The pillow top mattresses are firm but fluffy, granting a peaceful sleep and the views from the tower overlooking the 18 hole golf course, tennis courts, and pool are spectacular.  There are two heated pools, one indoor with an adjacent whirlpool and the other is both indoors and outdoors.  The indoor portion of the pool has a  relaxing waterfall cascading into the pool and even on cold winter days you can swim under the glassed wall behind the falls to enjoy an outdoor swim in the steaming waters.

Boredom does not seem to be an option in the entertainment oriented resort with staged plays at the Mainstage Theater, DJs and local bands at Jambalaya, Moonlight Movies, the Sunday Jazz Brunch, Summer DJ Pool Parties, the Bourbon Street Players, and, of course, the Zanies Comedy Club for that after dinner chuckle.  For those who want to spend some laid back, family time, there are checkerboard tables with chess, checkers, and a variety of other board games available for check out at the front desk.

In addition to the ballrooms, meeting rooms, restaurants, stores, Bourbon Street, and other areas in the main facility, they also have an Expo Convention Center for larger events that fill the main facilities and overflow.  In this writer's experience the facilities, staff, and amenities were awesome and rate a top notch 5 out of five.  It is great for meetings, outings, reunions, and rendezvous.  Check it out and have a great New Orleans experience within a short distance of Chicago!
