Grand Rapids ArtPrize effects cross the globe

John Collins - 12/09/2014 18:52 CDT

Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States

On September 24, 2014 ArtPrize will begin the events sixth year in Grand Rapids, Michigan. ArtPrizes boasts to be the largest ArtPrize in the world.

In recent years the Grand Rapids ArtPrize has attracted artwork and artists from around the world and inspired creativity and collaborations that continue year round. One of these wonderful collaborations is The Artist Table, with Traverse City's Royce Deans and Israeli artist Tali Farchi from the Netherlands.

Their past ArtPrize works have included collaborations with performing artists. They combined their artistic creativity with music and motion letting the performers songs, music, and dance inspire their creations.

In June Ms. Farchi visited Grand Rapids to continue her Artist Table collaborations with Mr. Deans. During her visit they held a twenty-four hour Living Art marathon session.  With pen and ink, pencil, paint, and pastel they plied paper and canvas with the portraits of the posing men and women who modeled throughout the night. The session culminated in an open house and art show where the public had the opportunity to come in for a meet and greet with the artists and to purchase their works.

This weekend they are taking another step in blurring the lines of international collaboration with an 8 hour art session on two continents.  On Saturday, September 13, 2014, Ms. Farchi will will be leading a group of artists in in Zwolle, Netherlands in an eight hour life art marathon while Mr. Deans leads another group of artists from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at his studio in Traverse City, Michigan.
