Kampala, Kampala, Uganda

A cross section of women with disability in northern Uganda have cautioned men who rape or impregnates them because of their vulnerability status to think twice on their action and have respect for them.

Achan Ann 50, who was excited to get married at the age of sixteen year, gave birth to five kids before she eventually lost her sight in 2003. She says her experience of emotional and physical abuse continues to manifest always as she cannot defend herself. She further stated that when still in Awach camp when she lost her sight her husband abandoned her in the camp and moved on with another woman even despite their struggle and times together when she was still normal something Ann say this is very unfair.

Nume Allan, the coordinator, Gulu women with disabilities union says 3-5 cases of rape and sexually related abuse cases are recorded monthly at their office and several go unnoticed in the rural areas.

Nume appealed to    leaders and the police to enforce maximum laws on the protection of people with disability while promoting equality as they are also people who did not want to have the alignments on their own.
