The joint Acholi sub region leaders’ forum yesterday at Boma hotel Gulu formed a special local management committee to handle the rising issues on oil and gas discovery in the region.
The team chaired by Professor Ojenga Latigo former leader of opposition in parliament who also worked as Agago members of parliament includes Rosaver Oyuwak, Gimara Francis, Ojok Julius Christine oryem Lapolo, Hon. Sam Odonga otto, Oloya tibere, Jolly Okot and okin.
Martin Ojara mapenduzi, coordinator of the joint Acholi sub region leaders forum revealed that the meeting followed a resolution by leaders across the region urging that the discovery of oil and gas in the region was not for Amuru and Nwoya but be deemed to belong to the entire acholi sub region.
According to Ojara, the committee will work towards what he referred to as oil curse by discussing how to manage oil and gas royalties, controlling of environmental waste, sustaining local communities and participation, the issues of corporate social responsibilities and the available laws in the fledgling oil industry in Acholi sub region.
Ojara further stressed that the committee is to draft position papers to the government requesting for local community participation in the project before the real drilling business kicks off in 2018.
