The newly appointed assistant RDC Lira, Mwaka Emmanuel Lutukumoi has launched a unique hygiene project for child mothers on menstrual hygiene management, a project by plan international.
The project launched yesterday in Lira town, comes at a time when over 10% of African girls keep on dropping out of school due to shortage of sanitary pads related issues.
Plan international now takes a leading role in trying to make pads affordable, with the aim of improving the capacity of men and women’s livelihood in the community.
Mwaka, encouraged the community to support a girl child, adding that a woman is symbol of life and from the umbilical code we are separated from them.
His statement comes, as Uganda prepares to celebrate International Womens’ Day on 8th March, under the theme, In Partnership with Men and Boys for Empowerment of women and girls in Uganda.
