ArtPrize 2013 ending is in tents!

John Collins - 06/10/2013 04:24 CDT

Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States

Today marks the last day of ArtPrize 2013.  The votes have all been accounted for, there are no digitally hanging chads, and the awards have been presented.

Due to the Federal Government shutting down this past week, two of the top ten ArtPrize finalists were evicted from the Gerald Ford Museum so that they could be viewed while the museum was closed for the government shutdown.

The polar bear triptych, "Polar Expressed" by Ann Crouter and the four quilts comprising Ann Loveless' "Sleeping Bear Dunes Lakeshore" both resided in a tented area just outside of the museum but that didn't seem to have an adverse effect on the voting.  In fact it may have given them the extra attention that put them over the top to take first place (the "Sleeping Bear Dunes Lakeshore" by Ann Loveless winning the $200,000) and Ann Crouter's "Polar Expressed taking second place for $75,000.

Andy Sacksteder's "UPlifting" rounded out the top three list, pocketing $50,000 for third place.

The remaining seven of the top ten each received $5,000 and are as follows:

4th - "Dancing With Mother Nature" by  Paul Baliker
5th - "Botanical Exotica a Monumental Collection of the Rare beautiful" by Jason Gamrath
6th - "Earth Giant" by Benjamin Gazsi
7th - "Myth -or-Logic" by Robin Protz
8th - "Finding Beauty in Bad Things: Porcelain Vine" by Fraser Smith
9th - "Taking Flight" by Michael Gard
10th - "Tired Pandas" By Nick Jakubiak
